Humane Heart - Some people are the voice for the voiceless.
For over thirty years Gertrude Maxwell has been one of the
most outspoken defenders of unwanted and homeless pet animals.
Since she started Save-a-Pet in 1972 her organization has
saved more than 70,000 animals from being euthanized. Today
even in her late senior years Gertrude works diligently to
see that dogs and cats find good homes.

Exotic Threats
- New
Florida talks to Lt. Rick Brown, of the Florida Fish
and Wildlife Conservation Commission, who describes the problem
of exotic
animals that wind up "on the loose" in parks
or back yards and eventually threaten the balance of nature
for Florida’s native wildlife. According to Lt. Brown,
the illicit wildlife trade is second only to drugs. We follow
him as he makes an inspection at a pet shop near Daytona
where the owners breed exotics in captivity and to Wildlife
Survival Sanctuary near Tampa, where exotic cats find new
homes.

BOK Tower - New
Florida goes “Along the Road” to visit
one of Florida’s early 20th century destinations, BOK
Tower, in Lake Wales between Tampa and Orlando. In
1921, Edward W. Bok hired famous landscape architect, Frederick
Law Olmsted, Jr. to change this arid sand hill into "a
spot of beauty second to none in the country." In
all the natural beauty of the gardens, Bok believed something
was missing. Remembering the glorious sound of carillons
in his native Holland, he decided to build a beautiful
tower as the focal point of the Sanctuary which would be
crowned by a large carillon.

- If you're familiar with the
term 'newbie'; or you're a member of a 'clan'; or you enjoy
a high-caffeine drink called "Bawls" - you're probably
a 'gamer'. In the past, computer game enthusiasts were considered
loners. But today, they meet up in gaming cafes -- play against
one another -- and are quickly inventing a culture all their
own. New Florida explores
the world of the gamer.
